It all started last Sunday night. I kissed Emma before putting the baby to bed, and her little face was so hot. She eventually progressed over the next day and a half to develop a super snotty nose and a nasty, wet cough. Tuesday afternoon I took her to her pediatrician because she had developed stridor. He gave her some oral steroids and some antibiotics for her ear infection to start if her fever continued. Still going through the motions with a sick Emma, Tuesday evening I tried bananas with JH for the first time. He loved them and gobbled them up. In hindsight, I shouldn't have tried a new food right before bed. About 9pm I went to check on him in his bed and he was
covered in vomit. It was all over his bed. He was lying in a pool of it, and it was all over his head and had filled both ears. Poor baby! I figured it must have been the bananas, but he dry heaved several times for an hour or so after I got him up. He looked so pathetic, but eventually fell asleep for the night, no more vomiting.
On Wednesday night, it was time to wash the dried snot out of Emma's hair, so I put the girls in the bath. Afterwards I was about to dress a naked Emma, when she said the dreaded words, "Momma, my belly hurts!" Could this be the worst day ever?? Jonas Henry was playing on the floor and I was trying to keep him out of the puddles, Lilah's asking why there are eggs on the floor, and Emma is crying because she has no idea what just happened. Did I mention Jonas was still at work? Ugh!!! Emma only puked once, thankfully.
Thursday afternoon Jonas Henry started coughing and wheezing. I took him to a walk in clinic in the late afternoon because his ped's office was full. The NP thought it was all upper airway, and sent us home. Friday morning Jonas Henry was starting to really wheeze. We sent to the see the pediatrician Friday and he thought he saw a small pneumonia on xray. He sent us home with antibiotics with hopes that he would clear up fast. He got worse as the day progressed on Friday and Saturday morning we went back in to the pediatrician. Poor baby was breathing so hard and and sounded so very congested. Mornings were the worst and he seemed to improve a bit during the day, but he still constantly had retractions and wheezes. The Saturday doctor said that he was still hanging in there, and reassured me a bit. Now though we no longer thought is was pneumonia but bronchiolitis (common culprit? RSV). Problem with that is it is viral and doesn't typically respond to breathing treatments or steroids.

Didn't actually help
So I stopped the antibiotics that were bothering his gut anyway, and we play the waiting game. Same thing Sunday morning, even worse breathing, so we headed right back to the doctor. I just wanted a doctor to tell me he was still doing okay and not going to crash anytime soon. Luckily, they have same-day appointments on the weekends, and we got to see the same doc both days. Sunday night was the worst, but as of yesterday (Monday), I truly believe he is finally getting better. He laughed for the first time in five days! He is playing and smiling and talking again. I was one worried momma!!!
Now, of course, it is Lilah's turn. She started with her fever on Sunday night. So far it hasn't been as bad as the other two, so I hope it stays that way. She did have to miss both days of school this week though, which she was very upset about. What a week!
