My Christmas Pictures

The best photos from the Christmas trip.  Mostly in chronological order.  There are several pictures.

 Crazy Emma.

JH at Fourteen Months

Well, I would think that I would have a lot to update in two months with a little one, but not too much has happened.  He has only the same four teeth he had several months ago and crawling is still his primary mode of travel.  However, I do think we are finally on the verge of something.  Last weekend JH took a first official step.  I don't think he'll do it on his own anytime soon, but we've worked up to ten steps this week.  It's pretty cute watching him toddle along.  I'll see if I can snag a video.
He's also working on at least three more teeth, all at once.  He was a wreck yesterday, and I'm sorry it took me as long as it did to figure out why.  At dinner when he bit his milk cup and cried out in pain, I put it together.  Poor baby.
Otherwise, he's talking a lot more and can really make known what he wants most of the time.  He's still getting up at least once a night, but as long as I can just nurse him and put him back down it doesn't bother me.
I couldn't resist the first picture.  It's totally blurry, but I think his little naked tush is so cute, and I love watching him try to climb into the bathtub.

Papa Johnson

Just before Thanksgiving, Jonas' dad Steve was admitted to the hospital for a bowel obstruction.  After multiple complications and one battle after another, he passed away on New Year's Day.  My heart is so saddened by his loss.  Once again, what makes me most sad is thinking about what out kids are missing out on.  We were truly blessed to be able to spend a few summers with him and Mimi here in Bellingham.
Papa loved with his whole heart.  He was the kindest man, always with open ears for everyone.  He had a pretty unique ability to get everyone to open up to him, even total strangers he met at the grocery store.
Papa was so patient and caring, I hope I'm able to do his memory justice for our children.  The kids' favorite things to do with Papa were reading and coloring, and he would do it for hours.  What patience!  We miss you already, Papa.

Christmas Recap

The kids and I went to North Carolina at the beginning of December.  As always, it was awesome just to have fun relaxed time with Nana and Papa, and the NC cousins.  I'll try to swipe some of my sister's pictures from our visit, because I was nearly a total slacker and didn't take many at all.  Jonas joined us several days before Christmas, and the girls couldn't have been happier.  (Jonas Henry is in the middle of the mama only stage, so he was indifferent).  We had several new things to add to the baby calendar when we returned home, but mostly just new words and a talent for block-stacking.
The day after Christmas we drove down to Georgia to see Aunt Sarah and family.  It amazes me that the kids can pick up right where they left off with all of their cousins, even though it has been maybe six months, or longer in the case of more distant cousins.  We came back home on New Year's Eve and it seems to have taken us this long to get settled back into our routine.
I take no credit for the following photos, they are all Michelle's.  Great pictures!

Christmas Parade

It's totally the way Papa is standing, but he sure does look old in this one!

Visiting creepy Santa.  Jonas Henry just slumped over and wouldn't move a muscle.  Very funny because he stayed like that for several minutes before reaching for me again.

Christmas Day

More Silly Emma

I want to write this down before I forget because I thought it was so cute and I can't seem to remember anything I want to these days.  Emma, JH and I were running errands this morning and on the way to pick up Lilah from school, Emma and I were talking about opposites.  I was asking Emma if she knew about opposites and we reviewed a few to give her the idea.  When I asked her if she knew the opposite of open, she said shut.  When I asked her about the opposite of fast, she thought for a minute and said, "calm down".
